RMT Press Office:

Say NO to D.O.O. – lobby the Merseytravel Committee, Mann Island July 28, 08:15

RAIL UNION RMT will be holding a major event in Liverpool this Thursday as the union mobilises members in defence of guards under attack in the Merseyside area:
After months of campaigning against Merseytravel plans to abolish the guard grade on Merseyrail, RMT will be presenting its case to members of the Merseytravel Committee on July 28, supported by Aslef, TSSA and the North West TUC.
RMT has called a lobby of the Merseytravel Committee on Thursday, July 28 outside No 1 Mann Island, Liverpool L3 1BP, starting at 08:15.

RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said;

“RMT has called this important event in Liverpool on Thursday in opposition to the moves towards Driver Only Operation on Merseyrail. We are pleased that we will be standing shoulder to shoulder with our trade union colleagues from Aslef, TSSA and the North West TUC.

“This fight is about putting rail safety before private profit and the union is determined to ensure that there is no move to water down the safety-critical role of the guard on Merseyrail services.

“The union is mobilising from across the labour and trade union movement and support from members of the public would be warmly welcomed as well.”
