Mitie staff on Eurostar begin strike ballot

Mitie staff on Eurostar begin strike ballot

11 July 2023

RMT Press Office:

Security staff at Eurostar who are employed by contractor Mitie will begin a strike ballot over the dismissal of a colleague from today.

All RMT members working for Mitie in security at Eurostar will be balloted from July 11 until 1 August.

The member of staff was dismissed from employment by Mitie and the union believes the decision to be wholly unfair.

In a separate dispute, Mitie workers have also rejected the company's "appalling" pay offer, meaning future strike action cannot be ruled out.

The facilities management company in the last financial year, reported a record annual turnover of around £4 billion, up 58% since 2021.

RMT general secretary Mick Lynch lambasted the company saying: "Mitie are a dreadful company and should not be operating on the railways.

"Our security staff members do such a vital role keeping Eurostar passengers safe and secure on their journeys across Europe.

"Yet they are treated with contempt, sacked without good reason and not offered decent pay rises when the company is highly profitable.

"Outsourcing on our railways must end and workers brought back in house."
