RMT responds to NAO report on oil and gas in the UK offshore decommissioning

General Secretary Mick Cash said;

"This is the only growth area of spending in the offshore oil and gas sector.

"Over the next decade UKCS decommissioning must benefit UK employment to reduce job losses from declining oil and gas resources, including seafarers and divers on specialist ships used to decommission hundreds of rigs and platforms, thousands of wells and subsea pipelines.

"Yet the Oil and Gas Authority’s mantra of standardisation of commercial practices by oil and gas companies does not stretch to employment practices which is driving exploitation in the contractor supply chain.

"The UK and Scotland in particular has a real chance to be a world leader in offshore energy decommissioning and those jobs and skills must benefit UK workers and the economy.‎"
