General Secretary Mick Cash said; "We have seen in recent days just how stretched rail and tube services already are in London with breakdowns and failures a daily fact of life. The idea that you can pile another 20% increase in passenger numbers into our rammed out services without major investment in staff and capacity is a recipe for complete and utter chaos.
"For starters the mayor should call off his cuts to jobs and services across the tube network and the train companies should abandon their attacks on guards and station staff. We need a coherent and properly resourced plan for transport in London into the future and the unions should be properly consulted and engaged as it is our members who will have to deliver the additional capacity required. "
