RMT Press Office:
RMT statement regarding the collision in the North Sea between the US-flagged oil tanker Stena Immaculate and the Portuguese flagged cargo ship Solong.
RMT general secretary Eddie Dempsey said: “Our thoughts are with all the seafarers working on both vessels and their families.
“A collision on the open seas is a deeply troubling incident and the resulting fire has international attention. Not only do we need a swift investigation and report from the Maritime Accident Investigation Branch, with the full co-operation of the flag states involved, we need to look again at the UK’s capacity to respond quickly and effectively to vessel fires at sea.”
