Rates Of Pay & Conditions Of Service 2014 – Northern Rail Drivers
Further to previous correspondence, I write to provide clarification for members during this balloting period. I am aware that the ASLEF ballot has now concluded and that ASLEF has instructed its members not to book on for shifts this Friday 21st November and next Thursday 27th November.
However, ASLEF did not inform us of their balloting dates in a timely manner and as such, the RMT ballot does not close until Tuesday 2nd December 2014. This means that you are not currently covered legally by an industrial action ballot and are therefore instructed to work as normal until otherwise advised by RMT.
We would of course have liked to run the ballot and subsequent action along the same timescale as ASLEF for many reasons, not least that it is more effective and has a bigger impact on the Company, so it is regrettable that RMT and our members have been put in this difficult position by another union. I can assure you that when this matter is resolved, RMT will ensure that the pay deal is applied in full to all Driver members.
Your RMT ballot paper has been posted today and will be landing on your doorstep in the next few days and I strongly urge all members to use their vote and vote ‘YES’ for both strike action and action short of strike action.
