Dear Colleagues
RE-ORGANISATION OF CLEANERS, ST PANCRAS – INITIAL FACILITIES
In recent weeks your representatives have been in discussion with Initial Facilities over their proposals to re-organise their workforce at St. Pancras International. RMT is concerned that these proposals will lead to redundancies and a worsening of your terms and conditions. The union’s negotiating team has raised numerous objections to management’s plans; however the company have refused alter their proposals and are pressing ahead with the re-organisation. As part of this re-organisation the company are proposing the following:
• A reduction in staff by 30% which will inevitably lead to redundancies.
• A reduction in Grades with no protection of earnings.
• The withdrawal of the Supervisor and Waste Operative (compactor) positions.
• Changes to working hours.
Your union has objected to these proposals in the strongest possible terms. RMT is also concerned that in an effort to rush through these proposals, management are ignoring the proper consultation procedures. Your union’s executive committee is of the clear view that these proposals are completely unacceptable and as the company are refusing to enter into meaning negotiations over this matter, they have instructed me to ballot our members for strike action and industrial action short of a strike. Accordingly, I have advised Initial that our two organisations are now in dispute. I am currently undertaking an audit of our membership system to ensure all our affected member’s records are up-to-date. Once this exercise is complete, you will receive your voting paper, I urge you all to vote YES in the ballot.
I will, of course, keep you fully advised on any further developments
Yours sincerely
Mick Cash
Acting General Secretary
