RFA members will strike in April over pay

RFA members will strike in April over pay

27 March 2026

RMT Press Office:

Maritime union, RMT will take strike action in the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) after rejecting the latest pay offer.

Despite the union’s best efforts to seek a negotiated settlement, RFA management continue to make offers that do not meet our members expectations.

Strike action will take place:

•     Tuesday 7 April
•     Thursday 16 April

During strike days, members will continue to ensure the safety of vessels is maintained at all times, including the management of moorings and gangways.

Seafarers can routinely work up to 12 hours a day but there remains no clear or transparent formula setting out how pay is calculated against those hours.

RMT General Secretary Eddie Dempsey said:
“Our members in the Royal Fleet Auxiliary have made their position clear time and time again.

“They will not accept substandard pay offers and are prepared to take strike action to get what they deserve.

“Our members play a vital role in supporting the Navy in some of the most dangerous working conditions.

“But they have faced years of below par pay and unresolved concerns about conditions.

“The MOD and the employer need to make a long-term commitment on improving pay and conditions, including ensuring National Minimum Wage compliance, if they are serious about retaining staff.”

END
