RMT announces dispute with P&O Dover over attack on sickness procedures

MARITIME UNION RMT has announced that it is in dispute with P&O Dover after it unilaterally imposed and refused to withdraw a new sickness procedure.

The union wrote to P&O asking the company to withdraw their sickness toolkit policy until such time as a formal agreement can be agreed over sickness absence issues. The union’s reasonable request for meaningful talks has been ignored and the company has failed to withdraw the sickness toolkit policy.

RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said;

“We are demanding that P&O Dover removes the new sickness procedures that it has unilaterally imposed and allows meaningful discussions to take place.

“The basis of those discussions should be our mutually agreed collective agreements for addressing sickness issues.

“In the meantime the union is preparing to ballot our affected members for industrial action in order to force P&O back to the negotiating table.”
