RMT calls for lasting peace in the Middle East

14 June 2025

RMT Press Office:

Transport union, RMT has called on the British government to uphold the UN Charter and international law by calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities in the region.

Following Israel’s unlawful bombing of Iran, the regime in Tehran has responded with a huge ballistic missile attack on Tel Aviv.

This ratcheting up of military action in the region, where civilians have already been killed, could escalate into a wider nuclear confrontation between superpowers on a much larger scale.

To that end, it is vital Britain suspends all military assistance and weapons components sales to Israel and starts to promote peace.

No British service personnel should be deployed in any aggressive military act that helps escalate this unpredictable conflict.

The British labour movement have a proud record of standing up for peace and opposing all forms of oppression and injustice.

It is always working people and their families who suffer the economic, social, and human costs of war.

Only through diplomacy, dialogue, and all nations upholding the UN Charter can lasting peace in the Middle East be secured and the world averting a dangerous escalation toward global conflict.
