RMT calls for urgent clarification from Greater Anglia

RMT Press Office:

RMT calls for urgent clarification from Greater Anglia over media comments on guards.

RAIL UNION RMT has today written to Greater Anglia seeking urgent clarification over media comments by a company representative yesterday evening.

The letter to the company from RMT general secretary Mick Cash says:

I am writing with regards to an interview your spokesman Richard Dean gave to Dave Monk on Radio Essex on 24th August 2017.

In the broadcast, both Mr Dean and the broadcaster gave the impression that your company was close to agreeing with my union on the provision of a second safety critical qualified member of staff on each train.

However, in the meeting I had with you on 4th August 2017, you failed to give me such a commitment.

I therefore seek your written confirmation that what Mr Dean said on the programme is correct and that you will guarantee a second safety critical qualified member of staff on every train.

I look forward to hearing from you on this as a matter of extreme urgency.

RMT general secretary Mick Cash said:
“It is crucial that Greater Anglia give us a straight answer to a straight question on the issue that goes right to the heart of the current dispute – the guarantee of a second safety-critical member of staff on all current services.

“RMT awaits the company response to our letter. Our ballot for action continues and the union remains available for further talks.”
