RMT demands Government take action to protect jobs

RMT Press Office:

RMT demands Government take action to protect jobs and services at Hull Trains and Grand Central as more than 5000 people sign petition.

RAIL UNION RMT is calling on the Government to step up and protect jobs and services at Hull Trains and Grand Central after more than 5000 people signed a petition in support of these vital services, which provide important rail links for numerous Northern regions and communities.

The petition calls on the Government to protect all jobs and services at Hull Trains and Grand Central, by providing urgent financial support, in light of the ongoing impact of Covid-19 on the sector.

RMT believes that the Government’s ongoing failure to protect these services is a kick in the teeth for the communities that rely on these important rail links.

RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said:

“These services provide an important direct link to London for various Northern towns and regions and it is vital that they are protected, particularly at this time of economic uncertainty.

“RMT believes that the communities served by these rail routes will suffer economically and socially if these services are not protected. I have written to all MPs with constituencies along these routes, urging them to raise these concerns with the Government.

“The Government cannot continue to turn a blind eye on this matter, and it must step up to the mark and commit to protecting all jobs and services at Hull Trains and Grand Central.”
