RMT demands TFL end outsourcing now

19 June 2024

RMT Press Office:

Transport union, RMT will stage a protest at City Hall on Thursday morning, insisting TfL in-source all outsourced workers.

These vital workers, crucial to London's public transport, should be employed directly by TfL or its subsidiaries, the union has said.

Thousands of contracted out workers suffer from poor pay, no sick pay, inadequate pensions, and lack staff travel benefits.

RMT demands TfL take full responsibility for all its workers.

The union's demands include:

- Minimum wage of £15 per hour.
- Access to TfL’s pension scheme or equivalent.
- Full sick pay from day one.
- Full TfL staff travel facilities.
- Union recognition for all subcontracted workers.
- Job security with no compulsory redundancies.
- Parity in working hours and annual leave with TfL and LUL.
- Decent working conditions, including clean facilities and appropriate PPE.
- Fair disciplinary and grievance procedures.

Mick Lynch, RMT General Secretary, said: “Outsourcing is a stain on our society and is an example of super-exploitation that undermines workers' rights and dignity.

"TfL must end outsourcing and bring all workers in-house as a matter of urgency.

"We urge outsourced workers, including cleaners, engineers, catering staff, and supporters to join our protest on Thursday.”

END

Notes: The protest will take place at City Hall 9am: Kamal Chunchie Way, London, E16 1ZE.
