RMT demands urgent action on Royal Fleet Auxiliary pay as Government prepare to lift cap for other groups of workers
Maritime union RMT today demanded action from the Government in an on-going pay dispute involving workers at the Royal Navy supplies lifeline - the Royal Fleet Auxiliary - after it was reported this morning that they are planning to raise rates for other groups of workers including the army.
The RMT RFA staff have been involved in industrial action since earlier this month over an imposed 1.5% pay cap which would mean a real terms cut in the standard of living for a group of professionals who have seen action in war and humanitarian zones around the globe at huge personal risk.
RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said;
"It would be a national scandal if the brave men and women of the Royal Navy supplies lifeline - the Royal Fleet Auxiliary - are ignored by this Government as they lift the pay cap for other groups of workers.
"RMT is demanding that our members, currently involved in a campaign of action in support of "Fair Pay for RFA" , are properly recognised and rewarded for their vital work and we want the cap removed and the dead hand of the Government lifted from our pay negotiations immediately."
