RMT Edinburgh Gate Gourmet staff to take Christmas Eve and New Year strike action in fight for workplace justice

RAIL UNION RMT has confirmed that Gate Gourmet staff at Edinburgh Waverley will be going ahead with a new phase of strike action this month, on Christmas Eve and then from New Year’s Eve, in an on-going fight for respect and justice in the workplace as the company continues to fail to address the abuse and bullying of their staff.

Gate Gourmet members at Edinburgh Waverly Members have been instructed not to book on for shifts as follows;
• 0001 Hours and 2359 Hours on Friday 24th December 2021
• 0600 Hours on Friday 31st December 2021 and 0559 Hours on Monday 3rd January 2022

This latest phase of action follows on from previous rock-solid strikes and has been called because instead of recognising the strength of the genuine grievances the company have chosen to do nothing to address the now long-term dispute.

RMT General Secretary, Mick Lynch, said:

“Our members have been left with no choice but to again take further strike action as a culture of bullying and harassment has been allowed to continue at Edinburgh Waverley which has led to a wholesale breakdown in industrial relations with Gate Gourmet.

“Instead of recognising the strength of the staff grievances and entering into sensible and serious negotiations my members report that bullying and harassment is ongoing.

“The strike action, which starts on Christmas Eve, and then recommences on New Year’s Eve, is all about respect and justice in the workplace and the company’s continued refusal to do anything about it.

“Gate Gourmet needs to listen to the strength of feeling of its workers and address these long running and deep-seated issues and put a stop to this toxic environment and treat its workers with the respect that they deserve.

“The union remains available for talks.”
