RMT Press Office:
Rail union RMT, will hold a mass meeting in Manchester on Thursday 14 August at 2pm as part of its national campaign to end outsourcing on Britain’s railways.
The event at The Vine Inn, 44 Kennedy Street will hear from General Secretary Eddie Dempsey and Regional Organiser Steve Shaw on the fight for a single, integrated and publicly owned railway.
RMT says all rail jobs, from cleaning to catering, engineering to station services, should be brought back in-house to reverse decades of outsourcing that has driven down pay, eroded conditions and undermined safety.
The union is also demanding the Labour government deliver on its pledge to deliver the biggest wave of insourcing in a generation.
General Secretary Eddie Dempsey said: “Outsourcing is a racket that’s bad for workers, bad for passengers and bad for the taxpayer. The Labour government promised the biggest wave of insourcing in a generation and we intend to make sure they deliver on that promise.”
