RMT on Scottish Government’s announcement that it will not extend the Abellio Scotrail Franchise Contract past 2022

Commenting on the Scottish Government’s announcement that it will not extend the Abellio Scotrail Franchise Contract past 2022, RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said:

“Today’s announcement from the Scottish Government that it will not extend the Abellio Scotrail franchise past 2022 is a significant development. It is clear from Scotrail’s performance to date that it has failed to deliver an acceptable rail service for Scotland.

“While we await the outcome of the UK Government’s Williams Review, what is needed now is a firm assurance from the Scottish Government that it committed to running Scotland’s railway in the public sector. RMT is committed to working with the Scottish Government on this issue.

“This afternoon I am meeting with the Scottish Transport Minister Michael Matheson and the protection of all Scotrail employee’s jobs and conditions during this process will be high on the agenda."
