RMT Press Office:
Responding to the latest figures on rail overcrowding in the context of the current heatwave, RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said:
“The combination of overcrowding on our trains and the current on-going heatwave is putting huge pressure on services and the rail workers across the network striving to keep Britain moving.
“Hot and overcrowded trains increase the risk of passengers being taken ill and the last thing that we want to be doing is axing the guards and station staff who are there to support the travelling public in these pressure cooker conditions.”
