RMT on Virgin East Coast collapse

12 September 2018

RMT Press Office:

RMT says that Virgin East Coast collapse was a "disaster waiting to happen" as Common's Committee sticks the boot into Failing Grayling

RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said;

"This Transport Select Committee report is yet another damming indictment of both the failure of rail privatisation and the serial incompetence of the Secretary of State Chris Grayling. The collapse of the Virgin/Stagecoach operation was a disaster waiting to happen after two previous private se‎ctor failures on the route.

"The committee rightly points the finger of blame at government for the failure of East Coast and rubbishes the attempts to blame Network Rail for fiasco.

"The key lesson of this report is not that we need another rail review, we need Graylings resignation and the return of the entire railway to the public sector."
