RMT pledges co-ordinated campaign to defend pay as Government eyes attack on living wage
TRANSPORT UNION RMT said today that it will mount a co-ordinated campaign to defend wages and to protect the low paid as it was reported that the Government is planning to renege on commitments on the living wage.
General Secretary Mick Cash said;
"It would be an absolute disgrace if the lowest paid in our industry, including cleaners and other contracted support staff, faced an assault on their pay rates despite having worked tirelessly throughout the COVID pandemic to help keep services running and key workers moving.
"RMT will work with the TUC and the wider labour movement to defend pay and to fight off any attempt to freeze or cut wages. That campaign will need to utilise every tool at our disposal including industrial action as and where required. "
