RMT Port workers to strike in fight for fair pay

25 October 2018

RMT Press Office:

The workers are employed by global shipping logistics and maintenance outfit MacGregors at a number of key locations including Aberdeen, Newcastle and Portsmouth. Following a total failure by the company to come forward with any kind of sensible pay offer RMT has instructed members to take action as follows:

Not booking on for any shifts that commence between:-

• 00:01 hours and 23:59 hours on Friday 9th November 2018
• 00:01 hours and 23:59 hours on Monday 12th November 2018

Additionally, with effect from 00:01 hours on Saturday 10th November 2018 until 23:59 hours on Sunday 11th November 2018 not to work any overtime.

RMT General Secretary, Mick Cash said:

“This dispute is about a key group of port-based staff fighting for a fair pay deal that protects and enhances their standard of living and sends out a key message that this trade union will not accept austerity and attrition in the shipping and offshore industry.

“The company are well aware of the feeling on the ground- reflected in massive votes for action – and they should start respecting the views of the workers delivering these highly-skilled services.

“RMT remains available for talks.”
