RMT Press Office:

RMT protests tomorrow calling for immediate termination of Abellio ScotRail contract

RAIL UNION RMT will be demonstrating tomorrow and calling for the immediate termination of privateer Abellio ScotRail’s contract and for the essential public service to be brought permanently back into public ownership.

RMT members and supporters will congregate on Friday 20th September at 11am at the RMT Regional Office at 180 Hope Street, Glasgow G2 2 UE at 11am. Then march down to arrive at 11.45 at Abellio ScotRail’s headquarters at Atrium Court, 50 Waterloo St, Glasgow G2 6HQ. Then go from Atrium Court to arrive at 12.15 at the Scottish Government offices at Atlantic Quay, 150 Broomielaw, Glasgow G2 8LU.
Abellio has been failing so badly that the Scottish Government are already putting plans in place for an operator of last resort to take over the running of the ScotRail service.

RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said:
“Abellio has brought devastation to the Scottish rail network with a catalogue of failures which has severely affected both the travelling public and the workforce.

“With the Scottish Government confirming this month that it has a public sector operator of last resort in place to take over the failing Abellio ScotRail‎ franchise the message from tomorrow’s protests will be stop messing about and get on with it.

“There should be no more final warnings, no more half-baked rescue plans and no more playing for time. Abellio should have the Scotrail franchise terminated with immediate effect on the grounds of persistent and gross mismanagement and the whole operation should be taken into public ownership."

Ends.
