RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch said:
“We understand that there is service recovery plan that has been developed between Hitachi, the Train Operators and the ORR and we want assurances that the regime will be robust enough, with appropriate maintenance and inspection cycles, to ensure that there are no further occurrences of this nature.
“This episode highlights the need for high safety standards across the rail industry and that companies should never be allowed to compromise those standards, or to reduce staff or resources, in the pursuit of cost cutting .”
