RMT Press Office:
RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said: “RMT welcomes this review but it must look in detail at the safety risks unleashed by the reduction of 800 front line staff as part of the ticket offices closure programme and the serious issues raised by the union about the impact on stations and station control rooms.
“These cuts have hammered down on safety as the front line, visible staff have been removed and all the statistics show that this has sparked an increase in crime. Access to transport services is being denied to people with a disability as a direct result of the staff reductions associated with the ticket office closures.
“The review should include all options including the particular benefits of ticket offices and the need for more not less staff on the tube, especially in light of growing passenger numbers and security threats and we expect the tube unions to be fully involved.”
