RMT Press Office:
RAIL UNION RMT today responded to the Government announcement that would see an investment of £600 million to upgrade the rail network in the North of England including the electrification of the trans-Pennine route and would create a new council led by the Transport Secretary to provide a “direct line to Ministers” for Northern leaders.
Senior Assistant General Secretary Mick Lynch said;
“Investment to upgrade the railways in the North of England is welcome but long overdue.
“This investment should also not be a one off but part of a National strategy for a mass investment in our railways to kick-start a green recovery from coronavirus to increase frequency, capacity, reliability and connectivity on both passenger and freight services.”
