RMT responds to speculation over rail capacity issues

RMT Press Office:

RMT responds to speculation over rail capacity issues in light of new lockdown measures.

RMT general secretary Mick Cash said;

“There is a meeting of the Rail Industry Coronavirus Forum on Thursday and I will be expecting a full report on capacity and staffing plans in light of the move back into lockdown. We also want an industry-wide approach to manage the serious risks to both staff and passengers raised by the new COVID variant.

“RMT's priority is to protect‎ jobs, capacity and infrastructure so that the rail industry is fighting fit to help punch Britain back into economic recovery when the lockdown lifts. With the vaccine rolling out we have to navigate the next few months whilst looking ahead to the crucial role rail will play in rebuilding our economic strength.”
