RMT issues January 26 deadline for assurances over Arriva Rail North Guard posts
RAIL UNION RMT has informed Arriva Rail North that it will be in dispute with the company if it fails by January 26 to provide cast-iron assurances around the future of the safety critical role of the Guard.
RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said;
“We have been seeking assurances from Arriva Rail North that they will retain a Guard on their trains and that the Guard will retain their safety critical role. Regrettably this assurance has to date not been received.
“The RMT find this lack of clarity unacceptable and we have advised the company that should we not receive these assurances by Thursday 26th January 2017 then our two organisations will be in dispute.
“This is yet another unacceptable example of the out of control greed and avarice of foreign state-owned train operators who wish to erode the safety standards of the UK’s railways in order that they can extract maximum profits for the purpose of subsidising rail fares for European passengers and to further line their already bulging pockets.”
