SCOTRAIL UNION RMT confirmed today this it has begun balloting nearly 2,500 staff across Scotland for both strike action and action short of a strike after lengthy negotiations failed to produce an offer on pay that meets the very reasonable demands of the workforce.
The union has been trying to secure a pay rise for 2020 for all Scotrail workers while the company have been pleading poverty and claims it is bound by the extension of Emergency Measures Agreements until January 2021. Meanwhile, the company has just given an inflation busting pay rise to drivers.
RMT believes that the continued success of the railway in these particularly difficult times is down to all the grades that work on it and that all the staff should all be remunerated fairly.
The ballot opens tomorrow and closes on 8 December and the campaign for a massive YES vote is well underway.
RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said;
“After a long period of talks aimed at reaching a negotiated settlement on Scotrail pay RMT reps are angry and frustrated that the company have failed to recognise the value of all its staff across the workforce who work equally hard on the front line during these dangerous times.
“The ballot opens tomorrow and we are campaigning hard for a massive YES vote.
“RMT is looking for a decent and responsible offer to settle this dispute and the union remains available for talks.”
