RMT warns of jobs, pay and pensions carve up

RMT Press Office:

RMT warns of jobs, pay and pensions carve up as DFT hires a union buster.

RAIL UNION RMT warned today that the Department for Transport is gearing up for an all-out assault on jobs, pay and pensions as it has emerged that it is advertising for a paid-up union buster to take on the workforce.

DfT are advertising for a Rail Pensions and Workforce Director who will be involved in “developing a newly formed team of circa 15 people which will bring together and strengthen the Department’s expertise on rail workforce, industrial relations and pensions policy.”

The advert goes on to say that the Director will play an important and influential role within DfT, leading in both a policy and delivery capacity in relation to workforce and pensions across the department and wider industry and acknowledges that they will be working in a “politically sensitive environment.”

RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said;

“RMT has been warning that the Government and the employers would be gearing up for a post-COVID assault on our members across the transport sector and here they are headhunting a dedicated hitman or woman.

“It would be a scandal if the essential transport workers who have kept key staff and freight moving throughout the pandemic were rewarded with a kick in the teeth on jobs, pay and pensions. RMT will fight any such attack.”

Ends.
