ROLE OF THE GUARD AND EXTENSION OF DOO – SOUTHERN (GTR)

RMT:

DISGRACEFUL LETTERS ARE ON THERE WAY

Most of you are aware that Southern management has reached a new low in industrial relations. They will be sending members not allocated Conductors positions a letter giving them 12 weeks’ notice of termination of their post. Members will then be offered re-engagement as On-Board Supervisors.

It is hard to believe that Southern could stoop so low – they couldn’t get their own way so totally ignore the wishes of their own staff and totally ignore the wishes of their customers, the travelling public. And to do so by basically making staff redundant and then re-employing them on different terms and conditions is like something from Victorian times. Unbelievable!

However don’t panic.  If you are asked to sign anything we suggest you wait for the time being. We will have a look at Southern’s actual letter and once we have done so we will write to you again.

Yours sincerely,

Mick Cash
General Secretary
