RMT says company declaring war on passengers and staff alike as ScotRail bosses to end free travel for kids

RAIL UNION RMT today slammed Scotrail bosses for declaring war on passengers and staff alike as Scrooge bosses confirmed plans to end free rail travel for children.

The popular ‘Kids Go Free’ scheme, which enables an adult able to take up to two children for free on return journeys, is set to end in the New Year as part of a rip-off rail fare rise. Each child will be charged £1 from next year, meaning an adult who travels once a week with two children will be more than £100 worse off after the scheme is cancelled.

The news comes as RMT members remain locked into a battle with Scotrail, and an overtime and rest-day working ban, to secure workplace equality for staff over rest-day working payments
RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said:

“Scotrail seem to be on an all-out mission this Christmas to put the squeeze on their staff and passengers alike.

“Whether it's depriving the workforce of fair rest day working payments or depriving kids of free travel there is no depths to which Scotrail won't sink. It's about time they were stripped of the franchise with the whole lot taken over by the public sector. “
