RMT Press Office:
Rail union, RMT today called on the Scottish government to scrap peak rail fares on Scotrail.
A non-binding opposition motion in the Scottish Parliament, urging the Scottish government to make the change, will be moved today.
Mick Lynch, RMT General Secretary said: “There is clear cross-party support for the Scottish government to do the right thing and reverse this terrible policy which will force Scotrail passengers to pay more to travel at peak times.
“It puts unnecessary pressure on people’s pockets and can play a role in creating an atmosphere of frustration which has in the past boiled over, risking the health and safety of our members working at Scotrail.”
