Breakdown in Industrial Relations

As you know despite giving Serco ample opportunity to address the issues on which we are balloting you for industrial action that being:-

•    Poor maintenance regime and lack of repairs being carried out - these outstanding defects include safety issues for our members and the travelling public such as inoperable lighting, fire alarms not working and broken door handles.

•    Incorrect formation on trains and defective equipment when entering service – the RMT has grave concerns regarding the numerous faults on trains entering service which has led to our members encountering complaints and criticism from customers.

Your negotiating team have been doing everything possible to reach a resolution but despite their best efforts talks with Serco at ACAS HAVE BROKEN DOWN. Management have brought monetary issues into a dispute about health, safety and welfare in an attempt to confuse the issues and divide you and weaken your resolve.

The ballot closes next Tuesday, 15th December, and there is still time for management to address these serious issues. I will write to you again and inform you of the result immediately it is received and will then advise you of the General Grades Committee decision as soon as they have considered the matter.

Stand firm and support your workmates and your Union

Yours sincerely,

Mick Cash
General Secretary
