STRIKE ACTION FOR 3RD NOVEMBER CANCELLED –
MEMBERS ARE INSTRUCTED TO WORK NORMALLY
Dear Colleague
ROLE OF THE GUARD & EXTENSION OF DOO – SOUTHERN (GTR)
Further to my previous correspondence dated the 20th October 2016 with regards to the above matter I am writing to advise you that:-
Strike Action called for 00.01 to 23.59 on Thursday 3rd November 2016 has been cancelled. Members are instructed to work normally on this day.
The union’s National Executive Committee received a letter from the Royal British Legion asking us to reconsider our position as this is the date where the majority of funding is received from members of the travelling public. After very careful consideration it was decided that it would be the correct thing to do.
However, all other industrial action previously advised remains on. For your ease of reference I set the dates and times out below:
- 00.01 on Friday 4th November and 23.59 on Saturday 5th November 2016.
- 00.01 on Tuesday 22nd November and 23.59 on Wednesday 23rd November 2016.
- 00.01 on Tuesday 6th December and 23.59 on Thursday 8th December 2016.
Your union’s National Executive Committee is also giving consideration to further financial support for our Southern Conductor members and I will write to you on this in due course.
As part of our on-going campaign to protect the safety role of Conductors, the union is asking our Parliamentary Group to continue putting pressure on the Department of Transport. I have also written to the Transport Minister seeking a meeting and I will keep you advised on any further developments.
As you are no doubt aware from recent press and television reports, the general public are supportive of our campaign and the vast majority want the retention of a guard with a safety critical role. I can honestly say that the union itself has received a great deal more positive emails, letters and phone calls than negative ones. This is unusual in a dispute situation where the travelling public are regrettably inconvenienced during their journeys.
Once again I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our Southern Conductor members for your continued support and dedication throughout this very difficult dispute and to congratulate you all on standing firm and united during the industrial action.
SUPPORT YOUR UNION – SUPPORT THE ACTION
SAY NO TO DOO
Best wishes.
