Planned strike action tomorrow (Friday August 28) by outsourced cleaners and catering workers at TransPennine Express (TPE) has been suspended following an improved pay offer.
Catering workers at Rail Gourmet and cleaners at Bidvest Noonan have already taken action which has forced both companies to increase the pay uplift offer to 3.6 per cent backdated to April.
The union has suspended the action while further consultations take place with reps.
RMT general secretary Eddie Dempsey said that it was clear that this improved offer would not have come about without these members standing firm.
“We are sending a message to employers that outsourced workers should not be expected to put up with low pay.
“Ultimately we want the government to act and bring outsourced workers in-house where they belong,” he said.
