Thameslink, Southern and Great Northern protest on Tuesday

RMT/ Action for Rail – TSGN franchise – morning rush hour of Tuesday 17 June - PROTEST AT VICTORIA STATION AND THEN AT GO AHEAD’S HEAD OFFICE IN WESTMINSTER

The RMT backed Action for Rail campaign will hold a day of action on Tuesday (17 June) to protest the proposed new single merged Thameslink, Southern and Great Northern (TSGN) franchise.

The government intends that the company Govia Thameslink operate a new TSGN franchise using a Driver Only Operation (DOO) on the routes and cut station staffing. This puts the livelihood of our members and the safety of the travelling public (eg at risk of falling between the train and platform) on the TSGN routes at risk.

In common with other new franchises, maintenance staff contracts are also at risk as it is proposed that work be transferred to alternative depots.

Protests against these planned changes will take place along the route during the morning rush hour with the main focus being Victoria Station (7:45am – 8:45am). Followed by a protest at Go Ahead Group’s headquarters (9:15am) at 4 Matthew Parker Street, Westminster SW1H 9NP. Maps are attached.

Information on where other protests are being held can be found on the Action for Rail site (http://actionforrail.org/call-to-action-june-17-defend-public-safety-and-jobs-threatened-by-new-thameslink-southern-and-great-northern-rail-franchise/).

I am writing to ask for your help with the protests on 17 June - please contact your Regional Office to assist with the organising.

Yours sincerely,

Mick Cash
Acting General Secretary
