INTRODUCTION OF NEW DOO ROUTES – SOUTHERN (GTR)

Further to my previous correspondence I can now advise you that the RMT entered into talks on Monday with Southern (GTR) in the hope of reaching a satisfactory resolution to this long running dispute and regrettably no progress has been made with the company.

The RMT believes the most practical way in moving forward and seeking a sensible solution on the Southern Rail Guards/DOO dispute is to involve all parties concerned. Therefore, I have again written to Transport Secretary of State calling for urgent intervention in setting up four way discussions between the trade unions, the company and the Government in the hope of genuine talks to jointly find a satisfactory resolution.

Additionally, the RMT has been made aware of the communication sent out to Southern employees from the HR Director indicating that the RMT has not tabled any proposals to try and resolve the dispute and that the company have no intentions of entering into further talks with the RMT unless we reconsider our positon.

Southern Rail is spinning lines which are a complete misrepresentation of the facts. RMT attended talks with the company on Monday at the request of Chris Grayling and we set out a package of proposals for serious discussion that could have found the answers to resolving this long-running dispute.

Let me assure you that this union is far from putting obstacles in the way. We are seeking a four way meeting so that Southern cannot hide behind their false allegations that RMT are unwilling to negotiate. The answer now is to get all parties concerned around the same table. That way, there is nowhere to hide and we can all leave the meeting with a position everyone understands. This will stop Southern stalling as they have done throughout this whole dispute.
